cREATIVE & ENGAGING LESSONS THAT KIDS OF ALL AGES LOVE

In addition to having fun, my students develop the fundamentals of technique, theory and reading music which lay the foundation for a future of musical excellence and enjoyment.

Students are also given many opportunities for improvisation, ear training and composition.

TEACHING PRINCIPLES

One approach does not work for everyone

I continually include various modalities during instruction and tailor lessons to my students’ specific needs.

Technology

is indispensable in enhancing learning and you’ll find the absolute best iPad apps, play-along and interactive software and backing tracks in my studio.

A teacher never stops learning

I spend countless hours continuing my own education so that my lessons always remain relevant and inspired. My job is to bring out the best in each of my students!

Piano lessons

can and should be ENJOYABLE, without compromising excellence of instruction.

Technique isn’t boring when it means learning an impressive sounding song that spans the entire keyboard.  Since students learn these technical songs through patterns, beginners of all ages can play thrilling music immediately!  For younger students, my basket of stuffed animals (each representing a various technical element) adds to the excitement.  Parents often tell me that my students run home after lessons to practice these songs.

MUSIC THEORY

Music theory is captivating when it’s gamified.  I currently have over 150 games to reinforce all elements of theory and I am always adding to my library!  Many of my games are multi-level or are geared for older students.  Therefore, everyone can learn challenging principles while still having a good time.

Repertoire

Repertoire that is well-rounded is key to a comprehensive musical education and students enjoy exploring various types of music during our instruction time.  If your child has a favorite song or composer, I will integrate it into our lessons whether it’s through aural training, rote teaching, play-along apps, lead sheets or traditional sheet music.

What parents are saying

“Michelle always teaches piano in a fun and easy way; with her kind and supportive demeanor, my daughter Annika has learned so much! It's been great to see the progress Annika made even when we had to switch to virtual learning due to COVID-19. Working with Michelle has been leaps and bounds more effective than the big box music schools we originally started at. I'm excited that Annika can have the sort of long-lasting, nurturing relationship that makes a difference not just in learning music, but in life.”

Sara Frederick - Little Paws Parent

“Coming back to piano has been a JOY with Miss Michelle. I have a middle schooler who now enjoys spending time at the piano - both working on new songs and also just playing with chords. She truly creates a life-long love for both the instrument and the music.
